HOUSING DEVELOPMENT/HOUSING REHABILITATION Parkside Senior Citizen Apartments – Northfield Community LDC reclaimed a community landmark when we converted the abandoned 100-year-old, P.S. 20 school building into a 43-unit residential building for low-income senior citizens. Northfield acted as the developer for this project. Completed in 1995, we secured funds from NYC, NYS, and Federal Low-Income Housing Tax Credits for this project. We recently completed a major rehabilitation project, which provided for the replacement of close to 400 windows and re-pointing of the historic exterior, as well as health, safety, and energy efficiency improvements.
Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) – This energy conservation and weatherization program, funded by the NYS DHCR, provides over 80 very low-income homeowners and tenants with free energy audits and energy efficiency improvements. Northfield Community LDC also provides emergency, health, and safety-related rehabilitation services to seniors through HEAP and RESTORE programs.
New York Main Street Program (NYMS) – Northfield Community LDC has been awarded a NYMS Grant for property/business owners on Port Richmond Avenue from Ann Street to Harrison Avenue. Matching grants may be awarded to building owners for the renovation of mixed-use buildings. Building Renovation grant funds are used to renovate facades, storefronts, and commercial interiors, with additional funding available for direct assistance to residential units.
Brownfield Opportunity Area (BOA) grant – Northfield Community LDC recently completed the Port Richmond/Mariners Harbor BOA Study which created a road map for economic revitalization and an implementation strategy. Funded by the NYS Department of State, to carry out this study we worked with a team of real estate, architectural design, and environmental professionals, government agency representatives, community residents, businesses, property owners, and non-profit institutions to create a consensus for community revitalization and action steps toward development goals. The purpose of this initiative is to address vacant or underutilized properties requiring brownfield remediation and engage the community in deciding how the parcels should be re-developed.
